Description: This class takes a problem-based approach to the study of Latin America. Although it will not cover every country within the region, it will focus on the key debates that have motivated anthropologists who conduct fieldwork in Latin America. Through readings, discussion, and independent research, students who successfully complete the course will be able to: • assess and respond to journalistic accounts of Latin America • participate in anthropological debates • analyze the relationship between the United States and its neighbors • identify new areas for scholarly investigation
